Coating Options
A cemented carbide (Cermet) is the preferred material to protect parts that must withstand all forms of wear and exhibit a high degree of toughness. Typical wear can include sliding abrasion, erosion, corrosion/wear and metal-to-metal galling wear.
Full Coating (FC): The entire working surface is encased in a layer (.005” - .010”) of wear resistant carbide, flight OD, flight side and screw core/root. Intended for highly abrasive applications.
Partial Coating: Full coating of just a specific portion of the feedscrew where high abrasion is localized.
Follow Flight (FF): Only the screw flight OD, the wear surface, is coated with a layer (.005” - .010”) of carbide. Beneficial for tool steel feedscrews or extrusion feedscrews where root wear is not an issue.
Chrome Plating Alternative: Full coating with a reduced coating thickness. Better corrosion protection than chrome plating, not intended for high wear applications.
Flash Carbide: A thin layer (.002”) of fine particle carbide is deposited leaving a smooth as-sprayed finish. A hard, durable surface requiring little post-application finishing.

Coating Thickness Options
- Standard thickness for screws under 28 mm: .005” per side or .010” overall. (.125-.25 mm)
- Standard thickness for screws over 28 mm: .010” per side or .020” overall. (.25-.50 mm)
- Standard coating thickness to replace Chrome Plating: .003”-.004” per side. (.075-.10 mm)
Coating Chemistries
All of our coating products contain at least 30% Nano carbides (less than 1 micron) making them excellent solutions for fine particle abrasion.
S100/4 (86WC-10Co-4Cr): Our premier coating option.
Recommended as a standard for glass fiber fillers. Highest abrasion and corrosion resistant combination. Can be used in applications processing at temperatures up to 725°F
S100N (90WC-10Ni): High abrasion and corrosion resistance. Can be used in applications processing at temperatures up to 725°F
S900 (88WC-12Co): High abrasion and corrosion resistance. Can be used in applications processing at temperatures up to 725°F
S400 (75CrC-25Ni/Cr): Recommended for applications with process temperatures above 725°F. High corrosion resistance with moderate wear resistance.
S100/4n Flash Carbide (86WC-10Co-4Cr): Exclusive to the Uniquecoat M4 HVAF system. This 100% Nano coating is designed to be applied to thicknesses of .002”-.003”.
